About Liz Burkholder One of my biggest passions is helping people overcome depression, anxiety, PTSD (resulting from childhood trauma, high Adverse Childhood Experiences, and childhood sexual abuse). As a survivor myself, it is so important for me to give back and help spark the path of hope and healing for those patients who sometimes feel there is none, and to those who may feel alone, misunderstood, overwhelmed, or hopeless. I work closely with my clients to assist them in their healing journey, no matter where they are on that continuum. I am also in the process of getting trained for clinical hypnotherapy to further help my patients/clients in their healing process. Experience I am a licensed family nurse practitioner (FNP) in North Carolina and board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). I have 10yrs experience in the nursing and healthcare field (3 yrs as an NP, 7yrs as an RN). I began my nursing career in 2006 following an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from Itawamba Community College in my home state of Mississippi. From there I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) from the University of North Alabama in 2009. Committed to my education and lifelong learning, I completed my Master’s Degree, Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN-FNP), from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 2013. During my RN career, I’ve held positions in several hospitals around the country, including Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, MD and George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where I was a charge nurse and team leader of a 51-bed unit. I have worked in multiple areas of nursing, including oncology units [where I was chemo-certified and an oncology certified nurse (OCN)], bone marrow transplant (BMT) units, medical/surgical units, and pulmonary step-down units. During my NP career, I have worked in the convenience care / acute care setting treating children and adults. I have also worked in the mental health setting treating children and adults with mental and emotional health conditions (depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADD/ADHD). I began practicing independently at the beginning of 2016 when I founded a private health and wellness clinic, Burkholder Wellness (in Charlotte, NC), to help fulfill the needs of local residents, offering access to integrative, trauma-informed healthcare. I also offers house calls and tele-health visits. While, I love health and wellness as a whole and want to be able to treat the entire self (mind, body, soul), mental & emotional health are some of my biggest passions. My specialization is trauma (childhood trauma, sexual trauma, etc), and even more specifically: childhood sexual abuse and the recovery & prevention thereof. I help lots of patients with PTSD, depression, and anxiety. I am currently getting my Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) certification from the International Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP). I am also currently working toward my certification in Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy from the Wellness Institute.
