About Flow by Wemademe
[TRANSCRIPT OF ANSWER]
“Hey, this is Britt with Birthpedia and today we are bringing you the full tutorial of the flow by Wemademe. The flow is a stretchy wrap. It is ideal for newborns and I believe that their weight limit is 30 pounds. I am here to tell you I’m not interested in carrying a child about 15 or 18 pounds in any kind of stretchy fabric. So you do you boo whatever..
Features of Flow: Stretchy, Breathable, Lightweight
It comes in this really awesome little tubular bag you all saw. And the good news is I just rolled this up and stuck it in there so it will go back and it did not take a lot of time. The first thing I noticed about this carrier that I love is the fact that it has this really great edge binding preventing the stretchy wrap fabric that we’ve seen for so many years that it rolls on the edges. People hate that, this won’t do that. And the second feature I noticed when I opened it was that it is actually see-through.
We love that super breathable. So I kind of figure if you can see through a fabric, it’s probably going to be a little bit more breezy than a fabric that’s like dense, thick and you can’t even get light to pass through it. The other thing that we really love about this carrier is the fact that they put edge binding on it.
So a common problem in stretchy wraps because of the type of fabric that has been traditionally used. When you hold the carrier too, it’s really lightweight. You’ll have to go buy one to see, or you can take my word for it.
How to Wrap Flow by Wemademe?
So we’re going to do a demo. We’re going to find the middle of the carrier here. They’ve used a little blue marker and we’re going to hold it right up in the middle. We’re gonna take about half to two-thirds of the carrier up in a little tube here.
We’re going to put it in a tube top position right in the middle and then we will reach behind us put them in this, in both in one hand so that you can crisscross them while keeping the top at the top and bring it up over both shoulders and take a moment to put yourself back together, cause that’s what we do.
It’s always a good idea to take a chest to a second before you go any further to make sure that this top is still the same as this top. The top here that’s close to your shoulder is still the top here. And so you can kind of give yourself a little check and make sure that the top communicates with the top. So this is in the middle and then the bottom is on the outside.
So you don’t need a lot of extra Slack with a stretchy wrap. Your Slack is in the stretch.
Check the Techniques to Get an Organized Carry
Okay. So you want to wear this pretty, pretty snug. We need to get these pieces through this tube top. So I’m just going to gather him up in my hand kind of neatly. And then if I reach up from the bottom, it allows me to just drop those puppies down in there without them getting all twisted. So then we have a nice organized carry. This is a good opportunity to re-tighten if you need to. So I know that my baby’s bottom will sit about here when I’m wearing it for, so that is the spot that I’m going to crisscross these two passes over and then bring them around and tie them twice.
If you have enough space, it is okay. You can crisscross these and bring them around and tie them in the front as well Or you can even pass them to the side and leave the knot on the side.
Tie Knots and Carry Your Baby as Shown
Our other favorite part about this carrier is that it makes a really nice flat knot, the fabric gets really skinny. It’s not making this Epic giant thing behind us. So to start the carry we’re going to push the centerpiece down and we’re going to spread these out. And then you want to establish which of these pieces is closer to your body because I want to work with it first. So I’m also going to push the one further away from my body down a little bit. We’re going to bring baby on the shoulder opposite the past closest to our body.
Newborns are new at everything so often when we pick them up, they fuss. When we change their clothes, they fuss, when we change their diapers, they fuss. It’s not uncommon for them to fuss a little bit when we’re first wearing them.
Adjust Carrier Settings and Support Baby, Take Pause, Let them settle
Don’t be alarmed. Give yourself patience. Give your baby some patients and just take a minute. There’s nothing that says you need to do this in a hurry, so give the baby a minute to calm themselves on your shoulder. That is opposite the past closest to your body.
Support the baby with the hand on the side that you have them. Take the opposite hand and reach underneath the past that you’re going to work with underneath there so that your hand can just welcome baby’s leg and bottom-right into that seat and baby just very easily glides down to where they’re supposed to be. I generally kick my body back just a little bit here. So babies doesn’t have a propensity to want to go that way. Just give myself a little belt. So then we want to open this carrier all the way so that it stretches from knee all the way around to knee.
All right, I may need to take a moment again and love babies to settle and calm themselves. It works best if we encourage babies to have their hands up beside their face. It helps them balance. Also, most newborn babies prefer to have their hands near their face anyway.
So once you have one side secure, you can kind of pass baby’s weight into this arm and then you’re going to bring the other side of the carrier, Just stretch it down and around. So it comes around that second foot and then we’re going to spread it out the same way that we spread the first pass all the way from knee to knee so that the baby is in the center of that pass. So now we have these passes crisscrossed stretching knee to knee. We’re going to take just a minute here. You can reach in from the side, turn baby’s hips under.
Adjust Baby’s Knee and Hips
We want that pelvis to be nice and tucked under and push the knees up. We absolutely want to see those knees higher than the hips for optimal hip positioning under six months in babies.
Protect Baby’s Head, Neck and Airway
So for our final step, now, once the baby is calm and we make sure that we can see their airway, you have trouble with the airway. By the way, you can push this as long as your spread stays, knee a knee, you have a little bit of adjustability up here so that you could make sure the baby has a nice clear airway. We always want to make sure that baby’s airways open and that baby is kissable, visible and kissable are the two number one rules. So we’re ready to finish the carrying.
So this very first piece that we made is still hiding out down here and I’m just going to utilize my stretch factor and stretch it up and over. I want to make sure I find the top of it. I think I did and I’m going to pull it all the way up to where it could cover baby’s head. So that baby is in the middle of the carrier, but I’m not going to cover the baby’s head. We’re just going to let it settle right around the shoulders there. And one more time. We’re just going to make sure that this also supports knee to knee. Give those hips just a little extra push and again, check out the airway and we have good positioning.
