Caring for the Umbilical Cord
“The umbilical cord stump just needs to be kept clean and dry. Most diapers have a little cutout so that you can kind of keep it out of the diaper. If it gets soiled, you just wash it with soap and water, and that’s all you need to do with it. Back many years ago, we used to tell people to wipe them down with alcohol, but they did some studies and found out that that actually didn’t help anything. It’s not necessary. It varies when it falls off anywhere between five days or so to three weeks and most fallout around a week to two
weeks.”
