Should I be alarmed that my baby is going into the NICU?

“If your baby’s going into the NICU, that means your baby needs some extra care right now. That doesn’t mean that something is wrong with your baby that’s going to last forever. It doesn’t mean that your baby might not get better and it could be quick. It just means your baby needs extra support right now. So the NICU team at your hospital should be talking closely with you to explain to you what’s going on with your baby, what to expect. There certainly are alarming things that can cause babies to need to go to NICU. But there are also things that are relatively easily fixed and quick healing that need just a short amount of support in the nursery. So it depends on the situation.”
