Midwives an Obstetrical Emergencies

“What do you do if you have a midwife that’s taking care of you during your labor and you have an obstetric emergency? Well, the first thing is, don’t worry. We’re going to get you taken care of. Midwives don’t work in vacuums. They work with doctors and doctors work with midwives, and so we each know our roles in that. And the midwife is going to reach out to the doctor that’s covering for her. She’s going to make sure that you get whatever you need, even if it requires a physician intervention, like a c-section.”

“So, the nurses in the room don’t get too stressed. If you see a whole bunch of people rushing in, that’s great. When we have something that happens in labor and delivery, nurses just seem to know magically and the team shows up and everything gets taken care of. It seems like a lot of hustle and bustle for you, but that’s all right because those are professionals doing what they need to do to take care of you and your baby.”
