Midwives in and out of the Hospital
“The ways that it’s the same as having a midwife in the hospital and a midwife in an out of hospital setting is that the word midwife means ‘with women’ and midwives in all settings are there for you to be an advocate and to give you a natural birth or as natural as possible in the setting that you are in.
The difference would lie in the fact that when you’re having a birth with a midwife in a hospital, the nurse-midwife must follow the protocols written by the hospital. Therefore some of the things that you’re desiring may not be things that can be obtained. And those are things that you need to talk to your provider about prior to making the decision on where you’re going to birth your baby.”
