How Hormone Pills Help Improve Fertility?

[TRANSCRIPT OF ANSWER]

“So when you see a fertility doctor, you are, you might need to use some hormones. These might mean you take pills that increase your hormones naturally, or we might just give you your hormones in the formula shop. These hormones are doing all essentially the same thing. They’re trying to improve your fertility and most of the time that’s because we’re releasing more than one egg and if you have more targets to hit, you’re more likely to make a baby and that’s fundamentally what we’re going to do here. What hormones would you be taking? Typically, the most simple thing is to take a pill called clomid or clomiphene citrate. It’s been around since the 1970s. Many, many children have been born this way. It’s very safe and effective and it just naturally increases natural hormone called follicular stimulating hormone or FSH. Another pill, it’s called letrozole. It’s off label, but it’s been well studied and it shows that it can indirectly increase FSH if that’s not working. Sometimes your fertility specialists will give you FSH, follicular stimulating hormone, or even some combination of FSH and HCG, the pregnancy hormone, all of this with the goal of helping you make a little bit more eggs each month and potentially improving your probability of success.”
