In our society, when, if I were to tell you to take a big deep sigh or a big deep breath, you would most likely go right. So you’re using lots of accessory muscles when you do that. If you’re taking a deep cleansing breath, then you can practice that by trying to extend that breath. On the inhale, your belly should go out, on the exhale, [deep breath] your belly should go in and that is a correct, deep breath. And you can utilize that deep breath, the entire contraction, and it will get you through your labor.
